The schools regularly share their experiences gained at the museum education sessions where they participated free of charge within the CultureBonus.

Viktória Harbula, the teacher of Kölcsey Ferenc Primary School took her school class based in Kölcse to the Móricz Pál Local History Collection located in Hajdúnánás. She summarised their CultureBonus experiences in a Facebook post:

“Our Kölcse based class had the opportunity to go to Hajdúnánás within the CultureBonus pilot programme. In accordance with the project ‘each and every student participating in public education can take part in a museum education session free of charge, up to a certain value per year’. In the town of the ‘golden straw’ we could follow the track of wheat from harvest through baking bread to the sale of the straw. We talked and laughed a lot, took an excursion, spun straw and we had a great time, while we were learning. I’m grateful for the help of my colleagues, the management of the school and the project!”

The tenth and twelfth grade students of Arany János Secondary School in Berettyóújfalu took a trip to Eger to the Dobó István Castle Museum, where they took part in a territory conquest game in connection with the novel “Eclipse of the Crescent Moon” and siege of the fortress.

Having slotted all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle to the right place, the board created like this was ready to serve as the base of the game, and the four teams started to play for victory. The game was a lot of fun, and the teams representing Hungarians won the siege of the fortress. Afterwards we went to see the dungeons in a guided tour. We learnt lots of interesting information about the exhibited objects and models, and the guide shared with us some intriguing stories about the fortress.”

“The 12th H class took part in a museum education session in the Dobó István Castle Museum in Eger. By presenting the old everyday household objects, the period of the Ottoman invasion in Hungary was brought to home during the session. We learnt about once was customs of correspondence, dressing, hygiene, and eating; the role of women and their responsibilities were outlined. The session was finished with a guided tour in the dungeons, where some light was thrown on the secrets behind the scenes of the film adaptation of the Gárdonyi’s novel titled Eclipse of the Crescent Moon. About the characters it turned out whether they were historical or fictional figures. We also saw 16th century cannons, which were still in working order. Having taken part in a fascinating presentation and guided tour with so many interesting details, we just hope the final exam will include this topic. This trip was implemented by the support of CultureBonus museum project.”

The staff of Bihari Museum in Berettyóújfalu by travelling to the schools, offer their programmes in the form of ‘museum in a suitcase’ within the CultureBonus programme.
