Museum Compass 34: Finding Home in the Museum

When people leave their homes and countries for whatever reason, they not only leave behind their possessions, but also their memories, traditions, and part of their identity. In this situation, it is particularly important to support initiatives that help preserve cultural roots, process trauma, and adapt to and integrate into a new environment. This idea was the basis for the project entitled ’Safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage of displaced Ukrainian persons in Hungary: inclusive community practices" coordinated by the Hungarian Open Air Museum Museum Education and Methodology Center (MOKK).

This volume is not only a documentation of a completed project, but also highlights the role of museums in the areas of resilience and wellbeing. When museums function as true community spaces, they can promote cultural dialogue, acceptance, and spiritual enrichment.
